About Me
Let me stand up and introduce myself. My name is Dan Monroe and I'm a developer.
I started writing code when I was 12 when our Basic Dungeons and Dragons group needed a random monster generator. I learned BASIC on a Commodore 64 and moved up through the Commodore family; Commodore 64, Commodore 128, Amiga 1000, and my first XT, a Commodore Colt complete with turbo button for 7 Mhz speed!
From there, I found myself writing addons for my local BBS. I learned Turbo C from that WWIV board. Skip past Middle/High School and the Army, I found myself working for Walt Disney World in Orlando as Guest Services. Still pre-Internet, I hooked into the dining reservation system so that I could make reservations for our Guests easier.
I met a girl. Done. She wanted to be closer to home so off I went to Ohio (snow, ugh!). We settled in Dublin, Ohio. I got lost driving around one day looking for a job and accidentally drove past CompuServe. The next day I went in. They were hiring Guest Services / Technical Support and when they saw my Disney experience and was hired on the spot. Thanks Mickey!
During my time at CompuServe, AOL bought us and eventually Netscape. They moved Netscape operations from California to Ohio and I found myself testing the new language Javascript. Who knew at that time I would still be using it 24+ years later! You can still see my news automation still working at CompuServe
Skip a lot of time and now I find myself loving the Ember Javascript Framework. In my opinion, Ember is by far the most comprehensive Javascript framework available. Plus, the community support is outstanding!
Besides writing code, I have or had several other hobbies and passions:
- My Family
- Geocaching - 47 different US states and 14 countries.
- Travelling / Cruising
